This archeological site has a great history to tell with the ancient Buddhist stupas that you will find here.this stupa is discovered in the year 1982,these stupas are said to be about thousand year old and belonging to the ashoka's reign.you will find three large stupas carved small stupas out of 46 different stones.
Devkothar also has five thousand years old rocky caves which are definitely very intriguing in their appearance. As an attempt to spread Buddhism in the vindhya region during the period of ashoka, the remains of lord Buddha were distributed to create these stupas. It is very important place for Buddhism followers.
Dev kothar is a location of archaeological important in 
Madhya Pradesh, central india.it is located about 5km of north west of katra village in rewa district at a distance of 75 km from rewa on rewa-allahabad road. The stupa of dev kothar was established by the mauryan king ashoka in 3rd century BCE. In the ancient time the site was located on the dakshinapatha running east west from patliputra.

Discovery: this place was discovered by p.k mishra along with ajith Singh in 1982 and in 1988 the place was declared as national importance by government of india is being preserved and conserved by archeological survey of india, Bhopal.


This complex proudly houses four brick stupas, the most ever found at site of this period. The bricks used are of varied sized like twirling lotus, conical lotus bud and a simple flower pot.
Some scholars says  that it was important trade route from kausambi(u.p) to Ujjain(m.p) 
Many rock edict found in this place. many Buddhist traveler from different part of asia like srilanka, Myanmar, Thailand, China are also visit here for learn Buddhism.
